Dennis Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta) and Elaine Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta), were his parents. The two are born to German, English, Swedish and Norwegian heritage. She attended Stettler's William E. Hay Composite High School. Her three sisters, Tammy, Tara and Trena worked and lived on her family's farm. While standing in a line at a theatre the scout of a modelling agency observed Helfer.
